Merkley, Witt and Avakian in Astoria (Video)

Carrie Bartoldus August 31, 2008

Democrat candidates stopped over for a brief speaking engagement in Astoria, Saturday afternoon. Talking about the economy and energy at the Astoria Public Library about fifty people listened to candidates Jeff Merkley (running for U.S. Senate against Gordon Smith), State Representative Brad Witt, Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian. Articulating their viewpoints on energy, economy, labor, families, education, conservation and big business the three fielded questions from the audience of mostly retired people. Less than ten people of the approximately 50 in attendance identified themselves as being part of the workforce. Most responded that they were retired, a few of the those who said they were part of the workforce said they were self-employed and working part-time. Surprisingly, no questions regarding LNG were asked, however one question on the transmission of energy was asked, regarding wind turbines.
